چکیده

Leaf chlorophyll fluorescence parameters as well as chlorophyll content were compared in three dominant mangrove species grown in two zones with different salinity in the Bhitarakanika National Park. The accumulation of dry matter and chlorophyll content in leaves decreased under high saline conditions. Quantification and de-convolution of chlorophyll fluo-rescence transient into several phenomenological and biophysical parameters (JIP-test) revealed that maximum fluorescence (Fm), maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry (Fv/Fm), area above the fluorescence curve between Fo and Fm, electron transport and active reaction centers per cross section decreased in the leaves of all species at high saline ambience compared to the low salinity zone. In contrast, a significant increase in the minimal fluorescence (Fo) was noticed in the leaves of A. officinalis and H. fomes in the highly saline zones. Among the fluorescence parameter studied, the area above the fluorescence curve between Fo and Fm was found to be more sensitive to salinity. Thus, salinity induced functional alterations in PS II and led to down-regulation of PS II activity.

Impact of Salinity Stress on Photochemical Efficiency of Photosystem II, Chlorophyll Content and Nutrient Elements of Nitere Bush (Nitraria schoberi L.) Plants

Salinity is one of major stresses which can severely limit plant production, especially in the arid and semi-arid regions. The present study was carried out to evaluate the impact of salinity stress on some physio-biochemical parameters in nitre bush plants (Nitraria schoberi). Thus, an experiment was carried out under natural conditions and salinity stress was induced by a combination of diffe...

Measuring the effects of salinity stress in the red mangrove, Rhizophora mangle L

The mangrove habitat exhibits many unique physical features, one of the most important of which is a salinity gradient. Photosynthetic rates, as measured by leaf stomatal conductance and leaf chlorophyll fluorescence induction, were tested as indicators of salinity stress in seedlings of the red mangrove, Rhizophora mangle, grown under five different salinity levels: 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 parts...

Physiological Performance of Soybean Cultivars Under Salinity Stress

Abstract Two experiments with factorial arrangements on the basis of randomized complete block design in three replications were conducted in 2007 and 2008, to evaluate chlorophyll content index (CCI), fluorescence of chlorophyll, proline content and grain yield of three soybean cultivars (Williams, Zan and L17) under a non-saline (control) and three saline (3, 6 and 9 ds/m NaCl) conditions...

Quantitative (Chlorophyll-a) and qualitative (species composition) seasonal fluctuations of phytoplankton in Lavan coastal waters (North of the Persian Gulf)

Phytoplankton species composition as well as amount of Chlorophyll-a and their relation to physico-chemical parameters were studied. The samples were collected monthly from October 1996 until September 1997 in two stations, i.e. Lavan and Douberkeh coastal waters. In this study, 65 phytoplankton species related to 3 groups of diatoms, dinoflagellats and Blue-Green Algae (24 genus and 44 species...

واکنش پارامتر‌های فلورسانس کلروفیل و فیزیولوژیک گیاه ریحان (Ocimum basilicum L.) به کاربرد باکتری‌های افزاینده رشد (PGPR) تحت تنش شوری

The current experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of plant growth promoting rhizobactria (PGPR) on chlorophyll fluorescence and some physiological parameters in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaf under salinity stress. The experiment was conducted in factorial arrangement based on completely randomized design. Treatments were four levels of salt stress (0, 40, 80 and 120 mM of NaCl) and ...
